With over 50 years combined experience in both textile crafts and gardening, we have a passion for plant dyes and British wool.
We grow our plant dyes in our two small dye plant gardens in Dartington, South Devon.
Brian is a statistician, textile craftsman and gardener. He is passionate about making textiles from scratch. His background includes working as a statistician for 40 years in pharmaceutical and biomedical research. He currently works part time as a statistical consultant and also dyes, spins and knits. He works with Richard to grow and harvest the dye stuffs in our gardens, and also dyes the fleece that we sell.
Richard is a botanist, basketmaker and gardener. He is passionate about ecological sustainability. His background includes working as a scientist, with research in the area of biodiversity conservation, and also as an environmental and community activist. He currently manages The Mother Tree, a small fruit and nut tree nursery at Schumacher College in Devon. Richard works with Brian to grow and harvest the dye stuffs in our gardens, and he also grows the plants and seeds that we sell.
